Welcome to the Semantic Grid Cafe! This site will tell you everything you want to know about Semantic Grids.
The Grid emerged from the nineties, primarily as distributed computer environment for large-scale scientific research. By merging Grid and the Semantic web sharing and integration of ict-resources is also available for business. Technical sharing and integration is handled by Grid technology. Functional sharing and integration is handled by Semantic Web technology. Together they form the Semantic Grid.
In recent year diverse academic project have produced important results. The MyGrid project has made important breakthroughs in DNA research. For example, technology has been developed searching for genetic defects on the basis of large DNA databases. Grids have also been developed for simulating aerodynamics for new spaceships, simulating large-scale chemical experiments, predicting seismic activities and sharing of neurological databases. In these Grids, large amount of ict-resources, such as reasoning and storage power has been offered to a dynamic global group of researchers.
Current efforts in the field of business chain integration are faced with conceptual and technical challenges. There are very few business standardized or commonly accepted design methods for web services and software agents. Furthermore, there are few technical business strength frameworks for service-oriented architectures.
Semantic Grid technology offers a systematic conceptual and technical approach to Business processes integration, called Virtual Organization.
